When I filled mine it is slightly highier so all I have to do is open the plug a little to see if it oozes out. At the same time take notice to the color and smell of it. No it will not cause the seals to leak or cause damage to the rear axles. I've used this method for over 20 years on Mopar products.

Matter of fact the front and rear axles on my 2002 were filled that way from the dealer...

I think the 1/2" is the minimum level. Nothing wrong with level.

Additionally the 6 speed tranny isn't supposed to have the fluid changed unless it gets contaminated. I buy 75w-90 synthetic by the 5 gallon can and then it costs me less than $5 a quart. Only have a little over 6000 miles on the truck but starting to pick up the common maintenance items so they don't all hit a once, big $$$$$$.
Where do you get 5 gal cans of syn?

Look around farm suppliers...

As far as I seen at the supplier for my oil... He doesn't have much for syn's oils. Mostly dino juice... I don't go expensive but I don't go cheap... Just the middle of the road...

Exxon 15W-40

OR

Phillips 66 15W-40

Both so far have work in every rig I've own or owned... Everything from 1951 ****** Jeep to the 2002 Dodge Cummins!
