Lift Pump...possible 911????

I'm sure this is on here somewhere but I'm in a bit of a pinch. Up til today I've always had about 15 psi at idle and 8 at WOT. Today I noticed after I pulled in the drive that it was bouncing between 5 and 7. When I throttle it to about 1500 RPM it goes to 5/6 and stays there. As soon as I let off the throttle it goes back to bouncing between 5 and 7 again. I didn't take it out on the road as I wanted to get some opinions first.... :'(

Sounds like it's time for a new pump. Change your filter first though and see if that helps. You may have just gotten some crap clogged up in it.

I`ll bet its the gauge,, Crack it open either at the port or the isolator. Most gauges don`t last as long as the LPs.<br> Danny

Re:Lift Pump...possible 911????

Yeah, what they said. Could be any of those things, the filter, the pump or the gauge setup. The same thing happened to mine, weird gauge readings showing 5-6 psi at idle and wot. My problem was the 1/8 inch line from the isolator to the gauge, it was leaking from the cheap quick connect fitting at the gauge connection. I replaced the line with some stiffer 3/16 tubing with crush fittings at the isolator and gauge. Of course I filled the line with 50/50 antifreeze as before. No problem since. Did take a while at the hardware store though, picking out the right sizes to get the perfect fit for the isolator and gauge connections. If Isspro is an electronic gauge, then never mind, mine are DiPricol. You didn't indicate your pressure at wot. If it too is staying around 5-7 psi, I would guess the problem is your gauge setup or filter.

Re:Lift Pump...possible 911????

The problem magically disappeared the very next morning. I've pretty much ruled out the gauge since it's mechanical with steal braided line. I'm leaning towards the filter even though it only has 3k on it. I'm going to check it out this weekend.<br><br>Thanks for the input!

Well guess what, I'm joining the failing lift pump crowd. :'(<br>It has 6-7 psi @ idle and about 2 psi when I floor it. &gt;<br>I'm debating whether to buy another stock pump or the holley black pump and hi-flo banjo's. Anyone know the price on the holley pump?

Re:Lift Pump...possible 911????

When you buy the Holley Black Changeover Kit from Rod at Wildcat, not only do you get 3/8&quot;-1/2&quot; (can't remember) inside diameter hose, you also get extra large banjo's and all of the clamps and parts you'll need to install the thing. Plus you get Rod's expert help. My second lift pump was 13 at idle and 6 at WOT. After the Holley, 16.6 at idle and 13 at WOT. If you decide to get the Holley, remove the bypass valve and shoot some brake cleaner up in it and run some emery paper LIGHTLY over the plunger. My bypass valve was stuck open and I would only get 8 psi at idle and 6 at WOT. After cleaning that, I had the above mentioned pressures.

Re:Lift Pump...possible 911????

Mine went out at about 48 K. If you are still under 100 K, the dealer should still replace the lift pump under the 100 K warranty. I put gauges on in June of 2002 and the fuel pressure was reading 12-13 psi at Idle and 2-3 psi at WOT. Was running 7-8 psi at 60-70 mph.<br><br> After they put the new lift pump on, getting 16 at Idle, 10 at WOT, and 12 at 60-70 mph. Pressure is much improved with the new lift pump. Never noticed any difference in performance, even when the pressure was getting lower. <br><br>Good luck!!<br><br><br> <br><br>smokinjoe<br>ohio<br>
