Pusher pump

My lift pump is bad also. I have a replacement that I got from Summit Racing. It is a Carter Pump identical to the one that comes on the engine, P/N CRT-P4601HP. It cost $ 87.88 plus handling. I am going to install it under the truck on the inside of the frame at the point just rear of the transfer case crossmember. It will be protected there and the fuel line runs right thru there also. I plan on getting the Max Flo set up from Wildcat deisel and use the filter that comes on the truck but increase the fuel line size all the way to the VP44 to 3/8". The fuel line on the rail where I plan on locating the pump is already 3/8" I think. This pump should work well in that environment as it will be well away from the engine. I am going to use some 3/8" thick rubber between the mount bracket and the frame and between the bolt head and nut side to try and keep the pump noise from transfering thru the frame. The frame sides can be drilled according to the service manual for 1999. It says holes drilled in the side of the frame rail must be at least 38 mm ( 1.5 in.) from the top and bottom flanges. Additional drill holes should be located away from existing holes. If this works well it will be a more cost effective way of doing it.

A holley blue fuel pump with new lines is a great alternative to the crappy dodge pump. You can build a system yourself for about $200. There was a member named Ryan on here a while ago that was selling a complete kit for I think $200. Don't know whatever happened to it though.

i was told the pusher pump is almost the equivalent to FASS...any truth...what psi does FASS put out? i was told 12-15 without the lift pump and around 22 with for the pusher pump

I had 18psi with a carter pusher and the factory LP and still lost my VP44
With the FASS its now 16psi always.
Sure hope the FASS is better than equivalent to a pusher ......

Mounting the pump on the frame will help. I mounted my pump on the frame rail and it's already starting to fail.

I had 15 psi for a couple of months @ idle now it's 13. I think the check ball fails. One possiblity is to add a regulator to limit PSI below where the check ball opens, thus saving it from slaming open and shut repeatedly. I think someone did this and has had good luck. Just a thought.

Low sulfur fuel doesn't help these pump either.

Bd makes a kit as well as Diesel dynamics. I think your gonna have hard starts with just a pressure pump most of the kits like the bd are actuated by a oil pressure switch so the stock lift pump starts the truck and then the pusher takes over when you reach 50psi of oil pressure. Check out the warranties offered by manufacture's and then go from there

The last one I bought was $148 from Cummins. I spent more on the series of lift pumps than I did on the FASS.

Mine is pegged at 15 to 16 PSI all the time with 400 HP WOT. If you have the FASS, you definately do not need the pusher.

I run a FASS and never see a pressure drop... I know several guys running FASS in the Kansas City area with big HP(400+) with little pressure drop.

FASS here too. Never seen the FP drop.
I have a complete Holley Blue kit if someone's looking for something cheaper. PM me.
