Lift pump conversion for 01 shown in parts catalog.

Went to run a number to install a lift pump for an 01 CTD and under the usual part number for the lift pump they show another number for a in tank conversion. Got one on the way.

You might want to double check that. It is probably for a gasser. I ran across the same thing. I had a not-very-knowledgeable parts guy, that knew nothing about diesels.

actually its possible to relocate the LP to the tank. I know a guy on another board that installed an intank fuel pump from a V10 and said that it worked great.

I thought about doing that a while back with a gasser pump, but never got around to playing with it. What did he do for a regulator on the gasser pump? I'm quite certain he's not pushing the stock 45 psi up to his VP.

J Body, I read this a few years ago...so cant remember the specifics. Just know that it can be done. Sorry man.

Yeah, 45 psi to the VP is too much. I dont really see why a petroleum rated industrial type pressure regulator wouldnt work.

I read on TDR that there is an in-tank fuel pump for the 2nd gens. I believe it is similar to the 3rd gen in-tank fuel pumps. According to what I've read, DC are replacing all warranty LP work with the new in-tank. Here's a link if you're interested:

Do you mind if I ask what it cost? Are you installing it yourself?

Truck is still under warranty. I just did it's first VP this past saturday. Was going to r/r the lift pump too until I found out about the conversion kit. I'll just not pull the trailer until that is installed. Fuel volume is borderline right now.

J BODY

My truck is going in to Dodge tomarrow to get the lift pump tested

I think it is bad as I am only getting around 10 PSI of fuel pressure @ idle.

I am going to ask them about this part # and see what they say.

Thanks

Let me know what they say, I'm at 10 at idle also but a 1/2 pedal will bring down under 5. I wont do WOT runs anymore until I get it replaced, or do it my self.

No in tank conversion according to the parts guy, but I wasn't overly impressed with the dealer.

But they did get in today, check it and replace it free of charge. No hassles.

So I can't complain.

Fuel pressure is up now. Around 14-15 idling. 9-10 WOT and 12-13 cruising.

It's true...

Went to my dealer yesterday to pick up an oil filter and asked about a lift pump and they don't even sell them anymore, has a big bulletin about the in-tank conversion for the 98-02 diesels. I still think I'd opt for a new lift pump and RASP though.
