Well, I finally figured out why my truck was stalling when I put it in gear. This started right after I installed a new VP-44 so I assumed that was the problem. Turns out it was the tranny going bad. It would "grab" and cause the engine to stall. Goerand warrantied the transimssion and when I replaced it it runs fine. No stalling!

There is one for the books.

VALVEBODY: Remove and inspect valvebody assembly for stuck valves / cracks / damage / uneven mating surfaces / loose retaining screws / other. Check all mating surfaces with a precision straight edge tool. Clean and recondition valvebody assembly as required. Torque all screws to proper specification. Replace valvebody assembly if necessary. PUMP ASSEMBLY: Replace trans pump assembly / input shaft / seal rings / torque converter.
Turns out to be the tranny! I replaced the transmission and all is well.

You hit the nail on the head.

Dave Goerand called and togeather we figured out that if I let the truck idle in neutral for 5-10 seconds the trans will build up enough pressure to hold open the clutches and allow for an easy slip into "D" or "R".

Hope this helps someone down the road.

Glad you love it. I'm getting tired of working on what is supposed to be a 500,000 mi truck. Just about anything will go that far if you dump thousands of dollars into it making it the way it should have been built.

Good point.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a 2011 2500.
