Forrest;

I looked at the link and the pictures, what they are showing is not where most 53s crack. Are they saying that the bad 53s have that casting flaw in the side of the block. Also are the pictures for 12 valves onlyor does that include 24 valves.

I realize they don't crack there (as I stated in that thread )

they're saying if your block has that visible casting flaw, it's prone to cracking. if it doesn't, it's not.

the year of the truck/block has nothing to do with it as far as I know.

I thought the Mexican blocks had a series of numbers...

If all you see is an a I am gonna guess it is a Mexican block though, "Teskid" the heavier duty blocks... Though they are typically labeled with a series of numbers. The Brazillian Tupy blocks were #53, #54, #55, #56, as they beefed them up.

Yes PLEASE enlighten us. I am a poor soul who doesnt have a TDR membership and it seems they made it manditory for you to be one to read any forums. To bad. So I dont understand what you guys are discussing with this new found #53 info. Is there supposed to be a visable casting flaw that would let you know if your block is one of the ones prone to cracking? If so could someone show me a picture of what to look for and where? Thanks a lot.
