Irratic Idle question

Irratic Idle question
Coming off the highway after a long drive, and stopping at a light...the idle stays at 950 and sounds like the motor is running away from itself..{with Edge box plugged in}...then after 3 seconds it drops sharply to about 875..still kinda high i'd suppose.What makes the idle stick momentarily like this?
