Intro and questions
Hi all, new to this forum and website.
I have a 2001 1T dually with 120,000 km on the clock, it has the NV5600 6 spd manual and , as I found out after the purchase, a block 53. No cracks as of yet, and If my research in any indication, Most of the 53 blocks do not crack. I had been keeping it plugged in(I live on the coast) all the time, until my block heater went recently, I am looking at replacing it myself.
Other than that, i try and warm it up before using( a major pain sometimes)
I am happy with the truck other than the block, I plan to keep it and get another engine if this one goes. With the km on the clock, i suppose I am looking at a doing the injection pump sometimes before 200,000 km?
I put a lift pump pressure idiot light in and changed the lift pump soon after buying truck. I am quessing that as the model becomes more and more out of date, rebuilt engines will be cheaper and cheaper? I have heard that cummins with pony up for a block if this one cracks..
I live in Nanaimo on VI, so any good and cost effective diesel resources nearby, repair etc, tips would be appreciated, I already know about HCD
Any comments or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome aboard. As you have surmised the 53 failure rate at you milage is probablly remote.
You heater problem may be nothing more that the cord connection failed at block. New cord avaliable by itself. Tight placement.

Welcome!
Never had a 53 block but suspect a good warm up each time is great Preventative MX for preventing a crack!
If idle time is difficult sometimes... look into a remote start/cooldown timer unit. They are very handy!
