Ok so heres the thing we can go weeks at time and not have a issue, then one day the truck just wont start. Its a 2001. But if you put a little start fluid in it she fires on that and keeps going. Changed the crank posiiton sensor due to that being the problem on another truck. Its not throwing any codes. and I checked the computer anyway and just got a low coolant code from a year ago when the hose blew. Any ideas? why wont it start on its own but will start on either? Its not a cold start issue, when it starts it starts great. but then nothing, no smoke or anything. Let the ideas fly!

no start like doesn't crank or just wont fire? if wont fire is there a stumble? is it cranking fast enough to fire? I take its not starter/battery related if it does start with ether but it could be a factor, not turning over quick enough. More likely would be your grid heaters not cycling or allowed to cycle properly. Check into that.

describe the situation more, does it crank and crank and crank and then stumble and fire? what does it do when it doesn't start?? help us help u more

My uncle's truck did the same thing. It would crank and crank and not start hot or cold. A shot of ether and it fires and runs fine.

I put a new vp on his and all is well. His truck had over 200,000 miles on the original vp. He tried a lift pump first. I'm sure it needed one but having a new LP didn't make any difference.

Just my experience.

yeah it cranks fine, we could walk out nowand it will start go to the gas station and no start. no fumes froms exaust. We ended up sending it to a ford dealer ( its a f700) Thanks guys! Ill report back to see what was going on
