Installing ball joints

Anyone have any luck trying to replace ball joints in 4wd without a press? I do have a torch to apply some heat. Thanks in advance for any comments. BTW this is in a 02 3/4 ton 4x4.

I have been able to get the lower ball joints out with plenty of heat, a nice big hammer and punch to help loosen them up. I ended up using a air hammer with about all of my 250 LBS pushing down on it... However the uppers you will need one I believe. Stay away from the Ball Joint presses at Harbor Freight. I went through 3 of them doing my uppers one time... Junk

I used a loaner kit from Autozone with some galvanized pipe nipples for adapters. Do a search to find out which ones you need. I found that heat didn't help me, but putting the press and adapters on straight and applying a butt-load of torque did the trick. IMO, getting the pressure vector to go straight down (or up) is key....

I did the same and got a loaner from Autozone. Dont think you could go wrong with that. Hope it helps.
