Installed 4"exhaust/drop in mpg
OK guys can anyone tell me why my mileage would drop after installing 4" system from turbo to tail :'( At first I thought well I'm driving different and listening to the great sound but I made a 700 mile R/T to Austin and took it easy, trying to be as gentle as possible. Mileage before new exhaust was 20.7 mpg, ever since 19.0 mpg. IAT sensor is clean. Any Ideas, do I need to reset anything on the fueling system?

Thanks
Gene007
WarWagon

Re:Installed 4"exhaust/drop in mpg
I tried to compensate for the heavy foot :. The fuel filter is changed every other oil change along with the air filter (change oil every 3000 miles) The truck has over 50k miles on it and has been a constant 20.5 mpg since turning over 10k. Fuel psi is 12-15. As Stated earlier the IAT sensor looks good even though I have not checked with meter. (Might just change it out anyway) Just not sure what has happened, the mileage dropped from the day the Exhaust system was installed (2 months now) ???

Thanks again,
Gene007
WarWagon

You're only talking about 1.7 mpg difference. Mine varies that much from one fillup to another. Already mentioned wind, temperature, other conditions. I put on a 4" and didn't see any change in mileage.

Maybe the mileage drop was a coincidence?
Have you checked your intercooler hose-clamps lately? Is it possible that the new system has a more-restrictive muffler? Any defects or blockage in the exhaust pipe? Go back and look at everything you touched during the installation - every wire, hose, sensor, gasket; even anything that you MIGHT have disturbed by accident. Check all the "usual" stuff related to fuel economy, from tire pressure on up. If all else fails, re-install the original exhaust and see what happens.

Good luck!

Gene: I had the same thing happen. Installed 4", tubo spooled up quicker, runs cooler under load, etc. Could not figure out why mpg dropped. Checked everything and appeared okay. Reset APPS and mpg came back. Don't know if this was conincidental or what.

Hotter weather and higher humidity can do it.
So can a lesser quality batch of fuel.
Getting fuel right after they dumped it can do it.
Fuel filter might need a change.

Yeah but did you check the Park Brake????
And what about the old exhaust is it just draggin along under the truck?
Did you remember to unleash the dog from the bumper? ;D
Just trying to help....... What about your sweater? Different color? ???
