Injection Pump Failure?
Over the past 6 months I have been plagued with the dreaded 1693 and 0216 codes. Truck has never really showed any signs of hesitation off the line. What has happened is when driving all acceleration is lost for a few seconds and then will return to normal. Lift pump has been replaced and supplies good pressure. All gauges read normal, fp @ 11psi., no loss of speed, no accel, no smoke, no hard start. Problem has occured 3 times now, at about the same intervals. Codes were cleared and returned @ time of problem. Was not running the fuel enhacement box at time, just edge ez. Could it be the TPS?
I know it will be difficult getting this replaced under warranty, but plan to give it a shot if needed. Does anyone know where I could pick up a reman or new pump at a resonable price?

How many miles do you have on your truck? Since it is an '02 I would think you should have some warranty left. The P0216 code is the kiss of death for your VP44. Hopefully you have less than 100,000 miles on and NO "fuel enhancements" on your truck. If you do I recommend you pull it and see what a dealer says.

I currently have 65,000 miles on my truck. I do have the pump wire tapped for the dyno sources power button, using TST Grabbers. I have heard Dodge has really stepped up inspection on the addition of performance additions. Has anyone had trouble getting a vp44 replaced do to the fact that the pump wire was tapped or for any other reason?

DC has made it clear to the dealers that if you return a pump on a warranty claim with a tampered wire the claim will be denied and the dealer will eat the cost of the repair. I'm not willing to be the guinea pig for anyone on this one so if the wire has been messed with, or the cover tampered with we usually stop the job until we get customer approval. It can get pretty sticky sometimes.

Ive heard of some dealers voiding engine warranty just because the pump wire has been tapped. Dont mean to scare ya but that is what ive heard some dealers doing.

Just returned from Bristol Motor Speedway and contacted the dealership where I bought my truck. They say the injection pump is not the problem. They say it is the TPS/APPS sensor going bad and have seen several trucks with similar problem and replacing the TPS/APPS has fixed it everytime. I was told the sensor is not covered under the 100,000 miles cummins warranty, is this correct? Sensor from them will cost $400, is there a place I could pick one up cheaper, and how hard would it be to change myself?

I would hope it would be covered.
How can the engine run without it?
If not the Cummins 100,000 mile warranty, then how about the 7yr/70,000 mile drivetrain warranty?
You might be able to get one cheaper directly from Cummins.
Can't remember for sure if it is a Cummins part or a Dodge part.
I'd fight to have it covered though.

Well, got a second opinion today. Called Scheid Diesel Service and explained what was going on and they immediatley said the same thing all of you have been saying, injection pump is toast. Guess I'm going to fork out the cash to get it replaced now. Oh, the price we pay to play, but so much fun doing it. Thanks for all the help.

Yes I had trouble with the dealer. They said the wire had been touched. Yep I had the grabber, and they said too bad. So I said ok, and went through WTTD to get a new pump. Man it ran great for three weeks. Then I had other issues. Not relating to subject.
