Increase in MPG?

Increase in MPG?
From the day I drove my truck off the lot I have been getting an average of 14.5 mpg. Then several days ago I decided to take the silencer ring out of the turbo. Today I checked my mileage and I am now getting 15.5 mpg. Is this just coincidence or by taking the ring out have anything to do with the increase in mileage. I now have about 10,200 miles on her now.

Re:Increase in MPG?
The ring has absolutely nothing to do with mileage. If anything, it will hurt your mileage cause you are hitting the throttle more just so you can hear that turbo sing. ;D Your probably getting better mileage cause your engine is getting broken in. The more miles you get, the better the mileage will get.

Re:Increase in MPG?
I read your good results about changing your fuel filter, and I went and got one. Having rarely had anything to do with diesels before this one, I am a little nervous about changing the filter due to being afraid I won't get all the air out of the fuel system...I don't want to screw anything up here.
Here I am, 10 or 20K worth of automotive tools, etc., but afraid to mess with a diesel. The manual I have is only so-so and doesn't make me feel at ease to deal with it.
Is there a web site anywhere???

Re:Increase in MPG?
Just a heads up on running low on fuel. It has been said that you will get better/longer service from your lift pump if you never let your tank get below 1/2 full. Just one of the ways to make your LP last longer. Hope this helps.
