Idle up and down....then died & no start. Now what??
Truck is an '01 with 308,xxx miles...auto, 2WD and is bone stock. The lift pump was replaced a couple of years ago...injector pump is original.
Out running some errands...truck is running fine. I get out to drop something off and the truck starts to idle funny with the rpm's going up and down. That quickly gets more pronounced and in less than a minute the truck dies and won't start.
Looking at the gauge, I am probably out of fuel, so I throw a couple of gallons in, bump the starter 3 times...pump runs, and...no start.
I pull the fuel filter (which is fairly new) and the canister is about 1/3 full. I then reinstall the filter leaving the cap loose. When I bump the starter the pump runs and fuel overflows the filter so I tighten the cap while it is running...should be good there.
I have since cranked on it a fair amount and it has yet to hit a lick. Now what?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. And yes, I know...I am an idiot for running out of fuel

300K on the original VP???? Amazing! Try cracking the injection lines at the rocker covers to bleed them. If that doesn't work, the next step is VP44 Diagnostic

Take a 3/4" wrench to loose number 2 and 4 like cougar said and get it started then snug them back up.....
Shouldn't have said anything about that vp!!

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your comments. Once I finally accepted the fact that I really had run out of fuel....I took the aforementioned 3/4" wrench and got 3 of the injectors loose. Must have been a lot of air in the system as I had to crank quite a bit, but.........she lives!!
Thanks again.......

Good job....my truck never would prime up after a filter change, even now with the FASS I still end up cracking a couple Injector lines to get it going!

I change the fuel filter every third oil change, so about every 20,000 miles. That works out to 10 fuel filters on my watch and this is the first time I have had to loosen an injector. They are all different for sure. Great trucks!
