Unhappy I think I'm screwed

Own a 99 2500 and am in trouble I think.
Live in Vegas. Jump on freeway. Pedal to metal. Climb hill like everyday after work. Crest hill and BLOOP lose power engine shuts off. Three and a half hours later tow truck hooks me up and tows me home.

Lift pump no pressure. Pray to GOD that is it. Install new lift pump and filter. Bleed line to injector pump. Bled. Won't start. Crack nuts at injectors barely any fuel. Crack nuts on fuel lines exiting injector pump. Weak spurts and that's my quandry. Is my injector pump gone or should I look at something else?

Get yourself a code reader and find out what codes are set. I hate to say it, but it doesn't look good.

Are the pumps really $1200 bucks. And if so should I go with an aftermarket pump or anything like that?

Pump

I would have to say that you ruined your injection pump. Check your pressure with the new pump, at least 10psi. Check for check engine light check DTC's if any. Nobody knows how important that gauge is until something happens. I am so glad i had one cuz I would have killed my pump. Well good luck,

Paul

Pumps

The pumps are at least $1000, I dont know if I would go with an aftermarket one. You can always have it rebuilt. By the way welcome to DTR. Hope we can help.

Nothing wrong with most "aftermarket" pumps... they are just rebuilt factory units and should have upgraded electronics.

Well the cheapest I found here in Vegas is $1295 + tax. Are the rebuilt ones less expensive and where can I save a couple of Benjamins?
Also what does the install entail? Is it something a novice should try or should I spend the money for a Pro?

Bleeding

The procedure is as follows try this if you didnt, crack the line at the bottom of the injection pump from the lp. hold a rag over the banjo crank truck but dont start it, the lift pump will run for 25 seconds, do that twice and see what you get, what was your lp pressure with the new one?

Here's a link to get you started. You should be able to find a local dealer in your area.

There is a reason people recommend having an incab fuel pressure guage, and you just found out why. When the LP goes bad you won't know it until it takes out the IP.

Does it give you enough warning to shut it down?

Yes,
You'll see a lower than normal fuel pressure reading with a full time gauge.
The IP-killing low pressure takes the pump out slowly, not all at once.

When my VP died (not from a lack of fuel pressure), I gave Doug Smith a call at

Great folks to deal with, good prices on quality parts, and he can answer any installation related questions too.
