I think the fass dealer put the wrong model yr system on my truck.

I have been having starting problems when truck is warmed up.

My truck is a 1998.5 24 valve , the fass part number on my reciept is for 1994 to 1998 12 valve.

would the truck even run with the wrong yr system?

The truck runs fine , except for the hards starts after its warmed up.

could it have damaged my vp44?

get your truck up to temp so it should not start well. try to start it to verify that it is being stubborn, if it is run the garden hose on the vp44 for a minute and try to start again......if it starts good......thats bad......bad pump that is

If your fass has a fuse that you can access easily try whether it will start better with the fass turned off- the VP44 has some issues with too high fuel pressure while cranking. You can install a relay to turn the LP off while cranking.
I do recommend against the garden hose test because shocking hot cast parts with cold water can have bad results.
