Re:I have some questions!!! Please help
You have the 47RE.
4 gears
700 Ft.Lb rating
Rear Wheel drive
Electronic
Watch thoase trans temps off roading, and running those big tires. Big tires, slow speeds, spells high temperatures.

You are definetly in the right place. The lift pump is a low psi fuel pump that brings fuel from the tank to the high psi pump(injection pump). Injection pump needs a adequate supply of fuel(5 to 8 psi min) to lubricate and cool itself. Injection pump builds up psi to get fuel past the injectors, around 3000psi I believe. 12valve and 24 valve use this setup with a VP44 injection pump(2nd gen and 3rd gen I believe) 1st gen trucks are pre-94 I think and have a mechanical fuel injection pump. Which uses a restrictor plate of sorts to regulate fuel timing and volume I believe(don't know much on the older trucks and am just getting the hang of the newer ones). The saving grace here is that if I am wrong, someone will correct me and also you can research each generation and topic by clicking the forums tab at the top of the home page. Everything is indexed by Generation/driveline/non-driveline/performance parst/etc. This is one of the best sites I have found for these trucks and it also offers links to a multitude of other sites for parts, accessories, technical information and just about anything else you may want to know. Hope this helps you some and I hope you make the right choice and go with a cummins powered truck. They really are great and if you need proof visit a junk yard and notice how many other brand name trucks there are compared to Dodge. Dodge has inconviences for the most part but will kepp you going down the road for a long time. I need to be getting a commssion for this.

Not to be pickey, but you are wrong on an important point and I'm sure you'd prefer to have your facts straight:
12V Cummins engines have a mechanical injector pump, referred to as a Bosche P7100. These pumps are excellent and should be good for over a million miles. They are oil cooled. As well, they can run on a variety of fuels including diesel, kerosene, avaition fuel and a few others.
24V have the Bosche VP44 which is electronically controlled by the trucks ECM. The VP44 is far less reliable that the P7100 and is cooled by the fuel. They can only run on #1 or #2 diesel.
1 st gens have a Bosche VE pump (I think) as well. This pump is a rotary pump while the 2 other ones are inline. I believe that the injector pump on the first gens is one of the weaker components on the truck.

Another note....
the 89-93 are the 12v, VE44 pump (mechanical rotary injection pump)
the 94-98 are 12v, P7100 pumped(Mechanical inline injection pump)
98.5-2002 are 24v, VP44 (electronic rotary injection pump)
'03 + are 24 Commpon rail (electronic common rail injection)
ALL 24V trucks use an electric lift pump.
ALL 12V have a mechanical lift pump.
The 12V lift pump rarely fails by may develop a leak.
The electric lift pumps on the 24Vs are fairly reliable now that most of the faulty ones have been replaced.
FWIW,
Mark

'03 + are 24 Common rail (electronic common rail injection)
[/quote]
On a continued note..
The injection pump is named CP3. The motor is named ISB-e, where the "e" stands for echo, referring to the quietness of the new motor.
