I have MEK ... but is there an REK?
I was walking out of the local Publix and heard a CTD drive by. Sounded good. I've been telling myself I would run one down when I hear one I like. So I jumped in the truck and only managed to find him cause he pulled into a fuel station.
Got to talking with him and to my surprise, he was running the same as me (stock exhaust), but not only did he drop the muffler, he dropped his resonator too.
I've always been concerned I'd get bad drone if I did it, but he said he didn't have drone problems. His sounded real good though. So, all there would be to a REK would be a straight 3" pipe with female (slightly larger) openings on both ends.
I guess I could just go to a local muffler shop for this, right? Any other questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns?

I've been running straight pipe for close to a year now and don't hear any done at all till I jump on the skinny pedal then I hear it. But other than that It's quiet in the cab. I can turn up my stereo to abut 1/4 to 1/3 volume and it will drown out any outside noise. As for the stereo it's a cheap MP3 player without a amp.
Don't worry about the drone with stock pipe. I've gotten thumbs up every time!
Do it yourself for about 30 bucks! Really easy!

i went to a muffler shop and got 62" of 3" O.D. pipe with 3" I.D. ends. it was one of those $10 CASH deals. cut out the resonator and muffler and slipped that piece in. no drone whatsoever.
if you have a sawzall, 2 3" clamps, and a 9/16" wrench you can get the job done for a fraction of the price of any resonator/muffler elimination kit.

I'd recommend replacing the entire exhaust with a 4'in system. I had a 3'in straight pipe on mine when I got the truck, and didn't like it at all, too much of a high pitched ping sound. I love my 4'in straight pipe. I have a sound clip of it if your interested, PM me your email address and I can send it to you.

I don't know what MEK is but yes there is an REK as in Robert Earl Keen . The young wild texans on here (maybe others) will know who he is.
I won't mention any names of anyone particular but he has been stretching his neck out lately on another thread or so I read.

MEK - Muffler Eliminator Kit
REK - Resonator Eliminator Kit
A full 4" exhaust would cost the price of a full 4" exhaust (minus $30) more than I'm willing to pay.

Straight pipe. You'll be very thankful you did. I do agree with buckshotmckee though, 3" straight pipe is just a little to high pitched for my tastes. I like the way 4" straight pipe sounds a lot better.

Mopar - That's true too. But for me, making the truck sound better is just one of those fru-fru things to waste money on. Basically that's the main benefit, I don't think the 10 extra h.p. (or less maybe) I'm really going to get much out of. I don't dyno, drag race, or use max power very often. So I'd prefer to do this as cheaply as possible. The other guy's pipe with the stock 3" straight piped sounded great to me.
Of course when the stock pipe corrodes off the truck, then I'll go with a 4" or maybe 5". We'll see.
