The sad & frustrating part is that these VP44's can fail at 50k or 350k, with no apparent reason. It seems heat ia a major factor in many deaths.
It really seems to be the luck of the draw. LP & gauges may help, but at the end of the day, the VP44 is a crap shoot.
I hope that Blue chip is the answer. time will tell.
Does anyone have any information on hoe well the FedEX fix worked for them?
I am sure they were reday to hire a contract to deal with some people at Bosch for ruining many worlds "On Time"!

Do any of the FASS systems or replacement pumps solve the VP44 problem. I wouldn't mind spending the coin on a good pump if I am not going to have to worry about replacing it again soon.

They will maintain excellent fuel pressure up to 1000+ HP, but they do not seem to eradicte the VP-44 failures.

They have to help with lift pump related VP-44 failures but don't solve the heat soak to the electronics.

It seems that the world is now aware of the fact the LP must be upgraded and plenty of clean fuel be supplied to the VP44 the only item left is the electronic portion of the pump being the "weakest link" due to heat failure. Any ideas on insualtion for the pump to help isolate it from the engine heat?

Calling the problem heat soak may be over simplification. Apparently the VP-44 is used on millions of smaller diesels in Europe with no problems.
The BMW's even enclose it in a sound deadinging 'coffin'!
Just don't know. Maybe they don't attach the electronic board to the pump??

To answer your question, I park in my attached, 2 car garage (no A/C or heat) and have a 'lowboy' floor shop fan (from Tractor Supply).
I placed it so it blows up and under front bumper when I pull inside.
Does it make a difference?? Can't prove it by my last VP-44 ........ but it can't hurt!
I know an hr after I park inside, the garage temp is up to 110*, this time of yr, if I don't open the back door!

Buy the truck if you like it. The VP is a maintenance item just like tires. Tires cost close 1000 set and a VP is right at 1025. The VP should last longer than tires so its cost per mile is less. Just make sure you have a fuel pressure gage and a spare lift pump. Only takes a half hour to change at road side if you have a couple wrenches and a rag to wipe your hands off.

You can usually get a VP over night or at least 2nd day and it only takes a couple hours to install if you have a good handfull of tools. There are lists of tools required posted here too. Do a search or somebody kick in.
