Well... I added a second tranny temp gauge (this one in the pan), and although I only drove for about 3 miles home (not enough to generate much heat and it's only 65° outside), I did notice at least a 30° difference in the two gauges. I should be towing the boat back down to the river in a week or so, so I'll be anxious to see the difference under load!
Anyhow, I did notice there is a "trans temp" light on the dash, anyone know at what temp that thing will actually come on? I figured if I had it pegged at 250° coming right out of the converter, it must not have been hot enough to trigger the idiot light? Makes me wonder where the sensor is for that?! Or, does your trans have to be on fire for the light to come on...

30K service, and the fluid was looking a little dark.
I've gotten mine up to 250 a couple times since I got my guages last April, no idea how many times before that.
The guy asked if I'd ever seen the light come on, and said the light should come on at 280 degrees.
I said by that time the tranny is toast, too late to do anything,
to which he replied "Dodges idea not mine".

ohhh that was nice of them to make it that high eh?
anyhow... I had to drain out a bit (until it was below the temp port on the pan) and it was looking fine. Didn't even have a smell.. other than that fine amsoil tranny fluid smell...
Like I said, I'll be curious to see the difference between the pan and the hot line in a week or so when I tow the boat again.
