Mine only worked with a load, "boost". When sitting still, or in neutral it does not do it. No matter how high I rev. But as soon as boost gets up to about 5psi, it starts. nothing to do with being warm either

found the prob. Loose intake bolt. It was the very rear driver side one that has the wire bundle clip attached to it. Would explain why it was so loud in the cab

Mine just started doing this after reinstalling my stock turbo. I guess I'm gonna have to check all the bolts and hose clamps. It is a gear type of howl that increases exactly as the turbo whistle does. Truck still runs fine but it's irritating....

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have this exact same situation... just pulled my stock turbo and reinstalled it, and now have this whine that I think is an exhaust leak at either the turbo to exhaust manifold flange (they reused the metal gasket), or possibly at the elbow or downpipe.

Can anyone recall what might have been the culprit? Truck runs excellent, just has loud turbo whine inside the cab above 5psi boost (cold or warm doesn't matter).

For all the monkeying around time, new gaskets are cheap insurance....
