hesitation-no power-transmission???
First let me say I am no diesel expert..
I have a 1999 3/4 ton -automatic trans. approx 78k miles. I recently having hesitation-no power when first driving the vehicle especially when engine is cold. Start up - notice some smoking that I haven't had before. Press on the acceleartor an it seems to bog down, shift to low or second does not seem to help. After serveral miles drives normal. Someone mentioned a govenor to transmission ??? may be an issue...
The only thing that I can think of that may have caused a possible transmission problem is that several months ago I was pulling a loaded horse trailer up and down steep grades in the mountains...I took it out of OD going up and dropped it down in 1st or 2nd going down the mountain to save on the brakes.
Do I take it to a Transmission specialist or a engines specialist or BOTH

Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? If not, then maybe you should give that a try.
Try the the apps reset procedure: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1
Once you've done these things, get back to us and we'll go from there. Good luck.

I think your problems are transmission related. If it does this only in the morning and at first startup and other wise works o.k. the rest of the day, then it is probably the transducer or governor gone bad, transmission related. To see if this is the problem the first time you take off in the morning and it bogs down, stop the truck and shut it off, then restart and if it works o.k. then it is the transducer going bad. also try manual shifting from stop to first, second, third. If this sloves your problems it is the transducer or governer pressure solenoid.

I had a friend of mine that had the same problem..No power when cold..but got better when it warmed up. We took off all of this aftermarket stuff(Edge EZ and Mega Cannon) and he took it to the dealer. What they found was a bad injector pump!
When I first installed his fuel pressure gauge..it would only show 5lbs at idle..so he took it in and they replaced the lp under warranty. I have no idea how long he was driving this truck with low fuel pressure but it finally took its toll on the VP44. It was still under warranty so it didnt cost him anything.
The only thing that will help until he is out of warranty is that we did replace the stock banjos with the larger ones from Geno's..but one the warranty is history..the truck is getting a set of 1/2" fuel lines..
Good luck on the power problem..
Rick
P.S. The computer WAS NOT throwing codes!!!!

Thanks for the APPS suggestion it did not work, so I guess it is the govenor / transducer...??? What is involved in replacing it. Is it something for a novice/experienced/expert... If I don't do it should I take it to the dealer or a tran. place like AAMCO? Also someone told me that a volt regulator may need to be replaced too...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well I guess I did not do the APPS right...it created a new problem and made things worse...now as I am driving there are surges in the acceleration...

You can do the APPS again but in my opinion your problems are engine related.
Full throttle acceleration with a bad tranny generally will give you high RPM's and no go if the tranny is bad.
If you are finding that the truck just doesnt seem to have "Power" then I would look at the fuel system as being the first problem and then the rest of the truck .
Main reason I say this is the inj pumps and lift pumps are notorious for causing troubles such as what you are having.
first things first, replace the fuel filter and see have the fuel pressure checked from the lift pump then go from there.

Thanks Scubasteve/Jason... I can floor it and the RPM pickup but not excessive. Some times while at full throttle it will seem to kick in and away it goes. I will replace the fuel filter this week....and see what happens.
Thanks.
Thanks.

well the fuel filter did fix it, but it needed it changed anyway...so it looks like that I will have to take it to tranmission shop...and to the dealer to reset the APPS since the reset method created a new problem...

the apps thing--be sure leave the switch on to discharge capasitors in system when you do the apps reset
Can't remember exactly (do an apps search on this for instuctions)
i did mine a couple times before i read that the capcitors had to be discharged
