Question Here's my low fuel pressure problem. Please help!!

OK I've read post after post and want to know what you guys think.
I just bought the truck and the IP went out ,soo..
Ordered a new IP and LP ,and egt, boost, low pressure warning light.
Now my fuel pressure at the fuel filter is 10-11psi@Idle,with my comp on 5-5
it drops down to 5-6psi@WOT 70mph run.
comp on 3-5 it will drop down to 6-7psi@wot 70mph run.
BD says there LP should put out 14psi all the time.?

So what do you guys think the best most cost effective way to change my low fuel pressure problem is? Thank for any info you have.

The most cost effective thing might be to make sure your fuel filter is passing diesel thru. Just change it.

I run a Holley blue on the frame, and the stock LP on the block, and I never come below 16psi. And I can run a 5x5 on the floor to 100mph, never below 16psi. Maybe a pusher with the BD pump would solve your problems. Also a big line kit makes a considerable difference.

Ok so the BD LP is a frame mount pusher. So sould I just run a stock LP also?
The fuel filter was new with the pump changes. Is there better fuel filters then others?
Thanks

Thumbs up

I run a single Carter 4601hp lift pump with extended stock wiring.
The BD pump looks to be a Carter 4601HP and mine on the frame rail in front of the fuel tank made 7psi WOT on 5x5 with stock banjo fittings, 9psi WOT on 5x5 after I modified my banjos and now makes 11psi WOT with my Vulcan Big Line kit and I feel good about it.
Got pics in my photo gallery.

Hey Smokin98.5 I spent about 105$ on a home made big line kit, I got all the parts thru Summit. Contact Linetrash 75 he could get you the list. P.S. Dont drill out the banjo bolts, I broke both on the fuel filter puttin em back in, they are not easy to find either.

Yep, drilled 'em bigger and radiused the holes. Bored the fittings to .250" too.
Don't recommend them to anyone too.
Like Luke says, they can break and give you a whole lotta grief for fittings that still require the fuel to make a bunch of 90 deg. low flow turns.
My Vulcan fittings are straight through & bored to .300" dia..

Hey Smokin98.5,
I'll be watchin' this thread.I'm STILL going thru kinda' the same issues.
I've got a low fuel pressure light & just put in a new campaign lift pump.My light's flickering at anything over idle.I've pulled the lines off and have excelent flow all the way to the inj. pump.I have great power and no "dead" pedal.I've looked into the Holley black, blue,Carter etc. but my issue is that I don't want to just throw $$$ at it without a for sure type of outcome.I'm at the point of either taking the truck to the shop at $100/hr to diagnose the issue or, trade it off on a powerstroke and cut my losses. This is the 3rd Cummings I've owned (the 1st 24v) and the first one I'm not happy with,BUT,I'm at the point of just being ready to change brands.
I've posted on this site before, but so far,I'm seem to only get answers I've alredy tried.
I hope your problems are fixed soon and you've got a better rig than I do.

You can get a vulcan kit from geno's for $70 that will have all the high flow connectors. I got their big line kit and I can't bring my fp down to 12 with just a plain ol oem carter pump.

The best thing I've done to help my self so far is to put a good fuel pressure gauge together buying all the parts at a International tractor store.
Cost me $35 and I just put a fast disconnect fitting on top of the filter housing.
My friend is running the big fass system and were going to put his old oem LP on my truck and see how that works.
I'll let you know how it goes.
It won't be till later this week. Seeing how I just got my ******* cut so I can't have any more kids!! OUWCH.
By next saturday I should have the pump put in.
Talk to you'all later.
