I just bought this truck last week an already, tonight on the way home from the mountains when I pull out it don't want to shift out of low if I play with the throttle an sometimes shift into nuteral an back to drive it will shift an then go to hight an lockup but next stop light it is the same thing unless I don't come to a complete stop then it will stay in second, I think, an then it will shift fine into 3rd any IDEAS Thanks in advance. what does it cost to get a trans redone for this truck OH Sorry its a 1998&1/2 Qcab 4x4 auto short bed thanks again

 

If you have not already, check the tranny fluid with the engine at normal temp, in Neutural. I saw you just bought the truck. If you owned a GM before you'd check it in park. If the tranny is full, I would seek some professional advice. It might be something simple like a band or valve body problem.

thanks for the answer I had one of these before an I know about the hot an neutural thing I've been reading the search on this an may have found something , How about the Trans output shaft sensor,,,, anybody second this thought. Thanks

 

Might check the ground wires, a bad or loose ground can make the trans do all kinds of things . on Sunday I had one in the shop doing something similar and it was the ground wire loose on the right side fender, the one from the battery

 

Just a heads up took it to the shop today and he dropped the pan, it was so full of metal that i'm going to add it to the scrap pile for the weight Trans is shot. As I type this they have it on the bench and I will have it back monday late he said. He has everything in stock, Billet converter, valve body, everything heavy duty.Plus he will Flush the lines and the Radiator which a lot of places forget to do. Price not sure yet but I need the truck
