HELP....l.p. pressure patterns getting weird, sporratic??????

My lift pump, is now awfully weird.
DO I NEED A NEW ONE< or do I have a bad elec. connnection I can't find.
One minute it will read 3 pounds,
The next, 13 pounds,
Then, it'll be at zero.

It will just change, NOT a gradual change,.,..but just like someone flips the switch to 3 pounds, 13, or zero.....I didn'
t used to care, because zero was NOT in the equation. Now that zero is in the equation I am going to change a lift pump unless someone tells me that this particualar scenario is usually a conection someplace.

The pump is a carter, and only has about 20K on it, 1 1/2 years old.

Ok,
Please respond,,,,,I have no idean, and do not dare drive my truck until I know the answer now that zero is part of the scenario.

I would consider somthing like a holley blue and a big line kit just to get you by! Sounds to me like a common pump failure or a bad ground! Might also check it with a test light! Sometimes the Trigger or hot wire to the pump will short out in the computer!

Sorry, I should have said earlier.
I have a mechanical guage attached directly to the filter housing, so there's not much of a chance of that being incorrect.

That is funny cause mine is doing the same thing. I have an electronic gauge though. If I turn the truck off, and restart it it goes back to 13psi for a bit but not long before it goes back to bouncing between 3-5psi.

New pump is on.
Not running (starter bumped only), it is at 13 psi.
Idling, it is around 10 psi.

Not sure pressure with full throttle, but I never get past about a third throttle anyway.

The ONLY thing i could get off the shelf was AUTO ZONE,,,bummer.
I got an auto-zone one,....my others were all carter pumps...and all started out at 14 psi (stayed at 14 idle for months and months before they started to go lower). at IDLE. This one is starting out crappy.

From the looks of it, they'll be giving me a free new one before warranty expires in one year. I think I'll be hitting them up at about 5 psi.

Also, I bought this one on a card that supposedly doubles the warranty of anything I buym....so I should be getting twor more out of them.

OK,
Thank you for the posts.

I had the same symptoms, fluctuating fuel pressure, I chased my tail/fuel system for 6 months before I got a new LP solution. No problems since

Numbers don't sound good on that pump. Save your receipt and get a different one, maybe a carter like you had or get your money back and get a holly blue or other FASS walbro etc, move it back toward the frame rail for best results.

Good luck.
