Help dodge wont start

I have a 99 dodge diesel 2500 4x4 92,000 miles. I've had it for about 2 months now. I bought it from my father in law who was the original owner. This is the truck I've always wanted especially to tow my horses but I recently have a reoccurring problem that my husband and father in law cannot figure out they are both licensed mechanics. My truck will work perfectly fine then I will go to leave work and when I turn the key nothing happens no start no attempting to start nothing. So my husband has to come with a wire which he runs to the starter then I hold the other side to the battery and it starts right up. So they battery and alternator are fine. We have replaced the starter, main relay, and ignition switch. I've been stranded 5 times now. I notice that when the truck sits in the sun while I'm at work that's normally when I have the issue. Can anyone pleaaaaase help me ?

I agree on the neutral safety switch. You can try holding it in the start position while moving the shifter through the gears and see if it catches somewhere in there. If so the switch is definitely bad. If not I still would not discount the switch since it could have failed altogether. If it is a stick then the clutch switch could be bad.
