Hellp! Swapping Transmission Cooler Lines
Hey guys,
So my transmission line between the tranny and heat exchanger blew yesterday. According to dodge it is on back order indefinately. Terrific! Has anyone converted to a high pressure rubber line with push-lok fitting or something similar? Any suggestions?

I was just going to post something about this. I am in the same boat as you. Cant get them. I need all 3 metal lines though as all 3 and dripping in different places. My friend who works on Powerstrokes says he uses rubber as replacement a lot. He says you need to wrap the whole line in loom. Dont know if it will work for the dodges or not. My dealer said basically the same thing "you wont get them for long long time".

Thanks for the reply. Im going to my local hydraulic shop today to see what they can make up. I explained the situation and they said "no prob, bring the line down". Due to the vibration of the diesel, i think it would be preferable to have a rubber hydraulic line anyway. I will let you know how I make out.

Fixed! The shop made up a flexible line rated for 2000psi. Its a rubber line with a steel braid and then a thread braid over that. The OD is almost an inch but the ID is the same. Cost $80. BTW I called a perf tranny shop and they said they use the same stuff and he also told me to remove the check valve so I did. Hope this helps other people!

It replaces the whole line. The end going into the tranny gets a 90 degree fitting and the end in the heat exchanger is straight. The adapter in the trans stays and so does the nipple in the exchanger.
This is what the 90 looks like only it had a male end for the transmission.
This is the hose.

I did mine today. I used 1/2 rubber trans cooler line with 3 hose clamps at each connection. Covered the whole line in wire loom and clamped it real well so no rubbing or movement. Cost me 30 bucks for all the hose and clamps. Called a hydraulic shop and they wanted a small fortune to fab up all 3 lines.
