Try pulling the hose off at the turbo intake and see if the turbo blades spin freely, no interference between the blades and housing, and there is very little end play in the bearing.
If that checks out it could just be the turbo spinning up.

From our Tech Facts section.
How fast does my turbo spin?

Re:Have high pitch sound when the turbo winds up?

Auto dealer I took my rear muffler or resinator off and was told by a cummins factory rep. that I would now hear my torbo whine when I put a load on it. he was right I can now hear it. as far as shovel hd's question about torbo R P M's I read they go as high 150,000 R P M's to keep bearings in them, they have an oil film between the O D dia. of the shaft and the I.D. dia. of the bearing, that oil is being changed constantly as the turbo runs. I love to hear mine whine when I put the power to it. waam - Holland, Mich.

Shovel Hd. thanks fo the info, I also now see I spelled torbo worng I'll spell it right from now on. I notice Auto dealer didn't tell the fourm where he was from. U.S.A. or Canada.I also read that cummins turbo's ran all the time, even at low speeds, thus the need for the oil around the shaft. Waam Holland Mich. 2002 ram 2500 c.c. 3.55 axle So far all stock, except one muffler. 30 degrees and cloudy, no snow. Fuel running 1.45 to 1.53

Yo' Waam,
Welcome to the DTR.
Go up and click on the "profile button at the top of the page, then scroll down and enter your truck's info in the signature block, then it will automatically appear under your post each time.
If you mess up on speeeeeeling or gammmmmar, you can click on the modify button at the top of your post and make corrrrrrections.

Shovel Head I think I did what you told me to do. I hope I did it right, about putting my truck info in here. How do I go about starting a new paragraph in these message. It won't work like when we are typing a letter. I know this is not the right spot to put this, but I didn't know where else to post it. Thanks again for the help. Waam

Shovel Head, I filled out that profile form with the signature box. After we have filled out the info, must we press something to get it in the system? Waam

Waam all the way down to the bottom of the page should be a button labeled submit, enter or something like that.

That noise sounds very similar to having loose intercooler clamps (unpressurized intake charge) hence a whistling teapot sound . Be sure before you asume it's the turbo

I agree with FireNhole check your turbo hose connections if its a whistling sound which sounds very much like turbo whine

Re:Have high pitch sound when the turbo winds up?

Is the truck new or used? If used, you may want to look at the elbow. I just put a PM3 on mine and put the elbow on. Man this baby sounds like a 747 winding up for take-off. Love the sound. Someone may have put this on the truck previousely. ???
