Harmonic Balancer Replacement

We are doing some work on our 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel. After the harmonic balancer is removed, is there something behind it that also needs to be replaced (we already have the harmonic balancer, but that's all that came in the box).

Just trying to find out if I need to order another part before embarking on this journey.

2 more questions ... are the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley one in the same? What about the harmonic balancer dampner?

All the same thing.

You might want to throw a front main seal at it, if you wanted, as that goes behind the balancer.

I was understanding that the seal is installed by taking off the timing cover and pressed from inside towards outward.

That is the way I did my last one.

I just mentioned it as he sounded like he wanted to make sure there where not any other replacement parts behind it.
It might be more work then he wants, but if it is weeping oil or he want to check the KDP, it might be a good time to do it.

Otherwise the harmonic balancer just bolts of to the crank with 4 bolts.

It's extremely rare for a 2001 to have the KDP problem. Unless the front main is leaking, no need to replace it.
