H.O. vs S.O. injection pump

I was reading that if I want to achieve over 450-500hp I will need to eventually switch to a S.O. instead of running my H.O. injection pump. I would have thought that a H.O. pump would have more power. What are the differences and will a S.O. just drop in or will it need to be converted in some way? One more question what is a S.O. pump? Please fill me in.
Thanks

SO pump is Standard Output, and HO is High Output. This is a direct swap, no modifications necessary. You will lose a little on the bottom end, but the top end is amazing compared to the HO pump. It is said the SO pump is good to 650-700hp. I have done the swap and love it.

I understand that H.O. is high output but, what confuses me is that you get more power from a standard output pump than you do from a High output. So am I missing something or is that just misleading? Thanks for the help guys!!!

the HO pump has smaller plungers but injects at a higher pressure into an engine with more compression (the HO engine) thus creating a whopping 10 more hp over the SO pump.

the SO pump has larger plungers so therefore pushes more fuel.

Ok, while this plate is still warm, does the SO pump handle the increased HO compression?
My recently rebuilt SO is untapped and stumbles a half second on a WOT run on 130hp injectors.

You can buy just the rotor head/plungers for a VP44. Buy the SO rotor head/plungers and install it in your HO pump. That will add about 40rwhp.

Big injectors will make any VP44 stumble..

Ok this sounds in depth!!! How hard is the rotor/head and plunger swap?? Sounds out of my league?? What does it require you to do?

When my time comes for a new ip I was going to go with a blue chip pump. Is this something they can do? I never have heard about this? Is it worth it?

If you want over 500hp up to 700hp go with a S.O. pump. No need for any other fancy type of pump. No other pump is worth the effort or loss of driveabilty or loping or failed promises. A S.O. pump will run right at $1000, cheaper than other fancy pumps and to the point.

Thanks for the reply,
I didn't have the stumble w/HO before replacement but it stumbles a little with the SO.
