Great now I have problems
I have been on here looking at the threads trying to learn stuff and guess what I now have hard start.
I did the key thing and got the p-pcu 1693 and then p-ecu 0234 which is a over boost I am told this should not be causing me problems with hard start.
Ok I know the VP44 sometimes will go bad without throwing a code but like everyone else I am hoping it is something else.
Ok I got under the truck and when the key is turned to the run position I can feel the pump in the tank running and goes off with the wait to start. It will not start running again until the truck starts which sometimes takes many tries to keep from overheating the starter. Is this normal where would you recommend I start.
I understand the fuel pump running does not mean it is pushing the right pressure to the Vp pump but is it turning on and off normally.
I was thinking of installing the Air Dog or Fass pump system as it probably wouldn't hurt having it anyway but would like it to run after I install it. This is because I think I would have a problem getting permission from the boss (wife) in buying other parts if this doesn't fix my problem.
I have already checked the fuel line for leaks and can't seam to feel any. I do have a small port on top of my fuel tank where the lines come out that has vacuum on it and no hose is this normal.
Tell me what else to check please so I can get this to start every time. I don't have a pressure gauge either.

Head to Autozone and have them scan the truck with an ODBII scanner then report back. Key trick is indicating another code stored which requires that scanner to access. Report back with findings.

Ok call me a dummy I found out my pump is not in my tank it is on the engine under the fuel filter. If I do a a fass replacement which is 40 gph and 13-16 psi will it be ok for up to 300 hp it says it will in the add.
Ok it won't start to take to autozone

The lowest flow rating I've ever seen on a FASS is 95GPH. The lowest end FASS pump (or just the pump without all the xtra filters) will support 300hp easily.

Does it do the hard start all the time or only with a cold engine or a hot engine? It sounds as if you possibly have a leak in the fuel system. A leak can be hard to detect too. The injector o-rings can crack causing a leak, there is a banjo fitting on the back of the head that can leak, and there is a return line T fitting just below the banjo fitting that can leak. Park the truck overnight with the front pointing downhill and see if that helps it start in the morning. If it does then you have a leak.

OK I will park it on a hill tomorrow if I get it started. I was going to buy a fuel pressure tested but they were 400.00 at Napa so I said screw it and ordered a fuel pressure gauge and pod instead and saved 300.00 almost.

The middle set has fittings to connect to the stock test port. $15 + shipping

I have found it starts best and quickest first thing in the morning. It will start in milliseconds after the wait to start goes out. It seams to get harder to start after it has been started no matter what the heat of the engine is. Well it is also slightly down hill so that might be it. My only question is usually in vehicles that have a leak it is easier to start as soon as you shut it off. This thing runs great and you can shut it off and try to restart asap and it will be hard to start.

If your start issue is generally when the engine is at operating temps then its not a leak problem but to much fuel pressure to the VP while the engine is cranking. Though thats not to say that you couldn't be suffering from both hard start issues.
