going to the dealer tomorrow, new vp44

I bought my truck with 40k miles, it had banks exhaust, a FASS, tranny coolers, a banks big head, and an AFE sticker but stock airbox...the truck had been modded, and I was uneducated. i also found out it still has the pig tail connector on the wire of the pump hanging there disconnected

The truck threw the p0216 code from day one...i hadnt discovered this site yet...well 10 months, and 18K miles later its on its last leg. I had my first bout with white smoke yesterday, sitting in traffic for 12 miles pulling a 7k trailer. whenever we would get moving and i could hold 2nd or 3rd gear at a steady RPM under 2k after 5 seconds at that rpm the white smoke would get worse and worse until i either let off totally, or punched it and revved it up to 2500, truck will still pull HARD, handled the trailer OK when I gave it lots of the skinny pedal...but low in the rpm range when in the traffic it smoked like crazy .

tomorrow i go to the dealer and drop it off to play dumb...i dont know why it is having a dead pedal or white smoke

when they tell me its voided, i call the lawyer because they sold me the truck in that condition and I was told the truck had been checked out by the shop and was good to go. I am gonna throw in the stock airbox, and pull the van aaken...but the injectors and other previous mods stay in. wish me luck!!

They sold you the truck with the warranty? Definitly on them if they knew about the codes.

the truck went thru their service dept. and was deemed in good condition and sold to me that way...the only thing I knew was that it threw a few codes when i bought...didnt realize til after i bought it what the codes meant...p0216 being one that worried me.

i only have the cummins 100k/7 year warranty...the 36/36 bumper to bumper is gone....but they transferred and i signed for the 100k/7 year cummins engine warranty.

I think that's 100k/5 year warranty

I'd be all over that service manager if they give you a hard time about it , considering they went over it and sold it to you that way with the remainder of the Cummins warranty coverage (that you had to sign for).

Good luck, let us know how you make out!

Considering most dealers have a designated used car guy I doubt that a diesel tech even got to see the truck, or if he did that would explain the missing box that was hooked to that pig tail .

the mods were pulled by the previous owner not the service dept....a few of the "lot boys" know him and ive talked to them but never to the original owner. he pulled all the easy stuff but left the hard stuff, like the exhaust, gauages, and FASS, or FAST coolers

also the truck has a better clutch in it, the lot guys said when the truck was traded in it had the stock clutch pieces in the bed...and now i am sitting at roughly 380-390hp with current mods, and i just pulled a 6-7K trailer 300miles and was on it hard with zero clutch issues. so at least im good to go from there

dealer tonight...good luck to me
