Gear Splitter

Does anyone have the Gear vendor or US gear 2 speed splitter on a six speed? I can get one for 1350 bucks and was wondering if they are worth it. I looked at the gear spacing and it looked like it would work better on the 5 speed then on the six.

I have one on my Suburban with a 6.5 Turbo Diesel and a NV4500 5 Speed. The truck has 4.10 gears and the 5 speed 5th wasnt high enough felt like it was screamin on the highway. Like you, I found one for a steal and put it on. Works very well indeed, fitup and installation were great. got 22,000 miles on it so far. Only thing though, its internal pump is driven off of the driveshaft, so it doesnt build any substantial pressure to engage its internal clutch pack until 20 MPH ( on a 4:10 geared 265/70/16 truck) . As such forget about splitting 1st or 2nd. I use it to split third to fourth (3.5th) which on the 5 speed is a BIG gap. And splitting fourth is a waste ot time, since fourth split is nearly the same as 5th regular. BUT a big advantage for 5 speed guys is that you can run in 4th gear on the trans and over with the splitter, and you have your fifth gear but it can take all the torque you can dish out, cuz the splitter is rated at like 1,500 Ft*lbs and the tranny is 1:1 which is the strongest. This is how I tow. Empty, 5th over is really great, as it knocks my 4:10 gears down to 3.2 and I have hit terribly illegal top speeds with it for fun . <br>Sorry this is long winded. Bottom line, yes its less of an advantage to the 6sp but if you have 4:10 gears the extra overdrive is real nice and even with 3:54 gears its pretty cool cuz it will take you from 2,000 RPM at 65MPH down to 1560.<br><br>Zino
