Fuel tank pickup tube

Hello, New to the site.

Was wondering if anyone would have information on changing out the pickup tube in the tank?

Going to be relocating LP w/ pre-filter using 6AN hose from tank to VP44. I don't want to short change my self with the stock pickup tube.

Pictures would be great.

I also heard it is a good idea to take the screen off the bottom of pickup tube. Any comments on this idea?

I am using the stock pickup tube and everything is fine, as far as fueling goes. I'm pushing 600HP. I think it is starting to leak air though.
I have heard of bigger pickup tubes, but I have not seen where it is absolutely necessary.

Hey, maybe that's my problem. Have you read about how to check it?

Thanks,
Chris

Well, Mybe I should just replace it and be done with it? I would like to go with a larger 6 AN line if possible.

I was being serious. Have you heard of a way to check it without pulling the tank? I really don't know what's going on with mine, and when I go to start it after it sits overnight or longer, it takes a while to get the fuel pressure up. I've been figuring I have a leak someplace in the pickup side, but did not know whether it was a hose or the actual pickup tube. In the 2 times I have had the tank out I have certainly looked at the tube, but not closely, as it should have been solid for years to come.
Im' just trying to figure if there's a way to know for sure before I buy one and drop the tank.

oh, thought u were being sarcastic

Spend some time searching. I remember a post or two and its wasnt too long ago where pinholes in the pickup tube were causing fuel issues....of course, this is probably magnified with a 500+ hp truck (I assume we rae talking about your 24V)....but, I dont really see a way of checking it without dropping the tank or liftin the bed. Woulda been nice if DC cut a trap door in the beds of these trucks. That sure would make life easier....

Replace the pick up tube with a piece of threaded black Iron. 1"od. I have a FASS and that is what it uses. You can adjust the pipe to be about 5/8" off the bottom of the tank. Use a nut on the inside of the tank and a washer with a 90 deg elbow on the top to an adapter to the size of the fuel line you are using. Use pipe dope. My fuel pickup stock (3rd gen) has a plastic pre filter as part of the fuel pick up and level sensor. It was plugged with algae and funky dirt. With the black iron all tank contents will make it to the filter and out of the tank and then truck. ks

I am not trying to steal this thread but I had a question about the fuel pickup tube at the tank. I just crawled under my truck and looked on top of the fuel tank. I saw a piece that looked like it should have a hose on the end of it. It looked like white plastic, on top of the tank with a little barb sticking out that looked like a very small hose should fit on. What was this... is my truck missing some hose?

Thanks

Tayloe

If it were April fools we'd probably tell you to plug that nipple . That would be your tank vent. Leave it be.

Did you go through the pick-up assembly with that set up? Or did you make a new hole in the tank?
