Fuel pressure problem
At 49000 i am on my 3rd L/P and 2nd VP. The F/P is 15 idle and 12 cruising @ 60. Now the problem, when cruising, the pressure will drop to 5-6. If I let off throttle or give it a little throttle it will come back up to 12. Then a mile or 2 down the road it will drop again.
Possible bad sending unit? L/P again? Oh, it is a westach gauge w/ Geno's 18" hose.

Also check the wires going into the lift pump.
All that Calcium Chloride they use on the roads in the winter is rough on wiring and the corrosion will cause bad connections

UPDATE,
Checked all electrical connections and they were ok. Thinking it might be the sending unit, ordered a new one from GENO's. Still had same problem.
Installed new L/P, (4th one) and all is A-Ok again.

I've seen what you describe when a Westach sending unit decides to go Tango Uniform, but (knock on wood) our 2002 is still on its original LP and VP-44 with the LP putting out 16+ PSIG at idle and 12 PSIG at WOT, even with the DD2's.

That's a lot of lift pumps. I replaced my first at about 130K, and it was weak but hadn't quit. Have you checked for an electrical or some other problem around the lift pump?

I just went to my local Cummins Parts house & bought the lift pump & washers.
I changed it myself in about 45 minutes vs letting the dealer get their hands on my truck.
