Fuel Pressure Gauge in - Reads 9psi at idle?

Just installed my gauges and I only get a reading of

9 psi at idle
6 psi at 65mph
2 psi at full throttle

Going to check my cable and make sure I have it bleed out good tonight and make sure all looks good.. Going to put on gauge straight on the schrader valve tonight...... but

if these are the readings I get.. These are low are they not.. Means my pump is going out? Have noticed that my fuel milage went down 6mpg like 4 months ago and just got my gauges..

Yes, those readings are low. I would get a new pump asap. You don't want to run below about 6 psi at wot. As for the low fuel mileage, I wouldn't blame the pump. You may have a bad IAT sensor. check that for the mileage loss.

1st check and clean the electrical contacts to be sure corrosion isn't causing the problem.

I hooked up my gauge on the schrader Valve on the fuel filter... is this a pre or a post fuel pressure reading? If pre filter, could going to the banjo get me a post filter reading? I would like post to moniter the filter eliment?

Use a tapped Banjo on the VP with an snubber to isolate the sender from engine vibrations.
That will be easier to hook up, and will give you Post-Filter pressure.

Hello everyone:

I am look into gauges for my Ram. Am getting EGT, Boost. But did not know
If I should get an fuel pressure or Oil pressure. After reading the differt thread
I am going with the fuel. I think I can get more out of this gauge. My truck has
an oil pressure gauge but what I understand it it nothing but a gloryfide idot light.

Thank You
Kevin

Update from what I found out with the low pressure readings.. I did some tested with another gauge I bought and went right to the fuel filter schrader valve and that gauge read 13psi... Long story short I called and got another gauge and that was it..

I know am at 13psi idle, 5 at wot, and 10ish at 70mph..

but know I was in the driveway the other night and was sitting at idle and the truck was at 12psi ? so I tapped the gauge and it went up to 13psi so do I have yet another bad gauge?

hope not.. IT is a mechanical DiPricol with the isolator under the hood so no diesel gets to the gauge ya know.. but what gives?

The isolator could very well be causing the problem.....

ive heard the isolators suck. I have electrical gauge so I cant testify. There are allot of guys who tell you to kick the isolator and put in a needle valve to regulate the flow.

pull the schrader valve out.
put in a tapped banjo from Wildact
put a needle valve in the banjo.
hook the fuel line to the valve.
your done.

I think Shovelhead has this setup. Correct me if im wrong.

I like the bypass the isolator with the other idea, but I tapped the gauge in the truck on the piller pod and the gauge went up. Never tapped the isolator? This is what makes me think the 2nd gauge is bad also?

Anyone else have a bad fuel gauge?

It's possible to have a defective gauge, or maybe one that's not compatible with diesel fuel.
What brand?

I have the same gauge (DiPricol). My isolator went bad and Geno's sent me an upgraded isolator and a new gauge! Oh, did I mention Andy sent me a return label to send the defective setup back? No problems since.

BTW, my pressure was the same with either isolator. It was letting fuel into the cab. Good luck. Phil
