Fuel Mileage
Aight from full to when the low fuel light comes on, I get about 350 miles on the tank give or take 25 or so. That is 14 mpg. Not so good. You can see what I have in the sig. The truck has 65000 miles on it. I just had the LP replaced 5000 miles ago. Gauges are on the order so I can see my FP. I know my fan stays on a lot, but considering the 100 degree heat in Texas I think that is normal. Would a bad fan stay engaged and drop the mpg. If so how do I make sure it is good or bad. Anything else I should check for fuel mileage. I know I should be getting much more than that. Let me know how I can get this baby up to 20 mpg??????? Also it feels like my 6 spd is hard to shift.

the 6 speeds are hard to shift and feel notchy as well but that is the way they all are so no big deal w/ that. and if the fan is on it could make fuel milage worse because of the drag on the motor but it shouldnt be alot differant that is just my 2 cents

Keep in mind, that with a 33" tire, you are going more then 350 miles. Probably close to 380 miles if you had 245 tires stock.
I have the same truck as you. All around town mileage and I got 500 miles on about 28 gallons of fuel.
Mine only has 265s(stock) but I have 315s that I am going to put on soon.
What kind of driving is this? If its city driving, that is probably about right, especially if you have a heavy right foot.
If its highway its low.

a 245/75/16 tire on average has a diameter of 30.5 and a 265 about 31.5 inches. I am assuming the nitto's are 305/70/16 which are almost exactly 33 inches. So with the 245's you would be about 7.5% off, and about 4.5% with the 265's.

BA RAM, I have the same truck and my fuel mileage is around 16 city and 18-19 highway. With the fuel prices these days I wish I would have ordered an SO instead of HO because I think they average better mileage. I have a buddy that has a 2000 5 spd SO and he gets 23 city.

B.A.Ram - My fan has only come on one time this summer. I was at gross weight, and in Dallas construction traffic! Something sounds wrong...unless your always towing some good weight.
Seems to me the fan could cost mileage. This is my first summer with the Cummins 180* T-Stat, first recommended by Haulin-In-Dixie, but I like it alot. Have not seen over 190* on my gauge this summer...either haulin heavy or drag racing. Use to see 200-210* regularly. I also drained my radiator (not the whole system)...and added new coolant - took about a gallon. That probably helped also.
Cummins part #, if interested in trying it, is #3967195.
Best mileage is with max tire pressure!
If your CTD came with 245's, your speedometer could be off by as much as 10%...and that's another 1.4 mpg! I avg 17.3 mpg with 50% hwy (1,000 mile test)....18.5 mpg on a hwy trip. You should be better than my automatic.
Good luck

No ones mentioned cleaning the IAT sensor?

Those with exhaust brakes should clean theirs more often than those without.

Alright I'll jump in on this about the fan constantly running. Mine runs a lot if the AC is on but not as much if only the fan is running. What about puting an electronic fan in vs the belt driven one. Has anyone ever put an electrinic controlled fan on a CTD? I know in the gasser world this is a big HP builder of up to 15hp. (speaking about Ford Broncos)

RJohnson mine is always on once it gets hot. I need to wash the back of the radiator out since I moved my breather bottle. I just need a way to tell if my fan is bad.
