Here in Montana the fuel millage drops in the winter due to the blend of fuel they use this time of year.

Tax time look up some trips miles Casa Grande AZ to Houston TX. In July.
With wife driving, she don't use cruise control as much as I do,
trip 1172 miles total time driving 20:18 fuel used 86.17 gal
Av MPG 13.6 AV speed. 57.73 MPH

Houston to Casa Grande AZ, Me solo return, use cruise most of the time.In Sept
trip 1143 miles, total time 19:44 fuel 62.11 gal
MPG 18.13 AV speed 58.5 MPH

If I can read my own writing, and did the math right that is the numbers.

The only time I got less than 17.5 mpg is when towing. Usually that's around 15 with a car on the trailer.

Figures Don't Lie...Those Darn Liars Do the Figurin...

Since they went to this hs ultra low sulphur fuel most guys mileage has dropped off. I would say my winter fuel mileage is down app 2 mpg since last winter.

EXAMPLE OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY
Typical government figuring....Let's say LSD fuel emits 100 ppm emissions per gallon, and let's say ULSD fuel emits 93 ppm emissions per gallon which is less... In reality if you drive 10,000 miles per year and average 15mpg you use 667 gallons times 100ppm per gallon of lsd you emit 66,700 ppm of emissions.

ULSD emits only 93 ppm emissions so you would use 769 gallons to go the 10,000 miles on the less efficient ULSD times 93 ppm of emissions per gallon so you would emit 71,500 ppm of emissions. So which is better?

Of course, example two! If you are the oil companies and they sell every one of you another 102 gallons of fuel to travel the same distance they make another 15% more fuel sales. Of course the environment is worse off but who cares, not the big oil companies, they are in it for the dollar!!! Big money buys control one way or the other. The more things change the more they stay the same(WORSE).

Are you correcting for oversized tires? How about headwinds? Both will account for only getting 15 mph... which could correct to 17+...which is about right, depending on your tranny.

From many posts that I have read, 18-20 is normal. Many get 20+. Winter will take a few mpg vs warmer weather. The new fuel is question mark.
Other factors:
Tires: Air em up to max up front, maybe 10 less than max rear, less resistance.
Clean(enough) Air filter?
Head winds can cost 2-3 mpg.
Monitor it as the weather warms.
You may want to try cleaning your sensors as a first pass, I think MAP & IAT?
Do a search, it will tell you how.
Also, running some silver Power Service(Wally World) is a good idea for many reasons; better mileage(In theory), cleans everything inside, not to mention lubricity for pumps & valves. Other flavors are available, I think Lucas may be #2 here.
I am sure other have some suggestions as well.
Biggest fuel saver: Slow down. 55-60 will get there on most trips within 30 minutes of faster speed and yiels 2-3 mpg. A low drag co-efficient is not a feature of these monsters.

Cool

Driving 55-60 is no fun, but paying 2.50-$3.00 for Diesel is down right painful. So, no fun is better than pain, unless the money does not matter.
There are lots of mileage posts, so I guess most people feel the pain; some just complain, however!

mine gets 18 to 20 with the auto 4x4, to help the fuel economy get a cool air intake, and a chip with economic seting on, it will help, also keeping your foot out of it.

To be fair, LSD is 500 ppm sulfur, ULSD is 15 ppm, which is 3% of what it was. But I thought that CO2 was the new evil gas?
