Fuel left after fuel light comes on
#16
I'm feeling like about 10 gallons too. I can only get about 27-28 gallons in at fill up and rarely cruise around more than 10 or 15 miles after the light glows.
?
10 gallons warning is nice to have, 1) for the VP recirc. cooling thing and 2) that's like 170+ miles in my truck if ever really NEEDED it!

i would not wait for the light to come. My girlfriend called me one night and said her truck (2001 CTD) quit, i went to investigate and the gauge said 1/4 tank. We trailered it to the station and filled it up, we put 33 gallons in it . There was nothing wrong the truck, other then the fact that the fuel gauge does'nt work.

This is why I also track the miles. I right down every fill up in a dome expense book. I can also see changes and try to find the cause.

For all you folks with the 2nd gen trucks,,,,, (not sure on the 1st or 3rd gen),,,,,,, FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNITS ARE NOT RELIABLE.
It only took me one time of bleeding injector lines on the side of a busy 4 lane after running out when the gauge read between 1/4 and 1/2. NOT FUN I've been using the overhead tripmeter ever since.
