Fuel Leak?

I recently noticed that when I shut my truck off after driving it about 15-20 minutes at least that there is a small amount of fuel leaking from it. I can see a few beads hanging off the bellhousing, but I can't pinpoint the source of the leak. Any ideas? Everything appears to be tight that I can see. Thanks

Al

Not sure if you've seen it, but the 24 valves have a banjo fitting dead center on the rear of the cylinder head. It's the fuel return line; it's not possible to actually see it, you just have to know it's there. You can stick your hand back there from around the side of the head and feel for wetness. I think it takes a 17mm wrench to snug it up.

There is a banjo for the head return but its not directly in the center of the head, rather more at a slight angle pointing toward the driver. Yes it can leak but there is also a T-fitting just below it which ties the VP return with the head return and that T-fitting can leak as well. I'm surprised you haven't started experiencing hard starting when the engine is cold or been sitting for awhile during the day.

There are grommets in the T fitting on the return line ~ $8 each from Cummins. Free if you can find the correct size hose & cut to fit. Sorry, I don't know the size. T usually does not need to be replaced.

I checked the T fitting a while back and everything seemed to be tight. I'll check the banjo fitting and if that's tight and dry I'll try to reseal the T fitting. Thanks for the help guys!

I understand that dusting the area with talcum powder is an easy way to detect any leak.

Anybody have a part number for those T fitting seals? Looks like that may be the culprit...

Call Cummins & give them your engine number. They can look it up. Dealer was twice as much. Since it is Sunday, try tightening a little. Sometimes that works.

I'm at another machine so don't have either part or engine # handy.

Never had a hard time getting it started. Actually found it wasn't the T fitting leaking. Had 2 injectors lines less than a 1/4 turn loose. Thought it was the T fitting cause the fuel was running towards the back of the motor and down in that area.

Yeah I reached back and snugged up the banjo fitting on the back of the block, but I'm still getting a little fuel dripping off the bottom of my bell housing. I don't have a cummins store near by to get the rubber bushings and If I had a picture I feel I would have a better understanding on how to fix the problem... I picture would be great if possible!
