Fuel injection lines need replaced?

I'm having a new VP installed & the dealership calls & says my fuel injection lines, the ones from the VP to the injectors are rusted and need replaced. Is this a common thing on the Cummins? Factory units are a grand, of course I found larger stainless ones for $455 when I got home after I already authorized them to overnight a set for tomorrow's install. Anyway, I was having hard starts & figured it was the VP since I was down on power & smoke. Y'all figure it could have simply been a leaking fuel injector line?

leaking high pressure fuel line would just cause that cylinder to be weak or missfire. Unless you have a common rail diesel truck, 2003 and up.

If they were leaking you would have fuel everywhere at 20k psi.
Sounds like some preventative medicine if they were rusting up
