Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

Have used Baldwin filters for the last 15 years. Never a problem. Fuel filters seem to have more pleats, and are larger in diameter than Fleetguard. No problem w/Fleetguard, however. Wix makes a good product.

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

I've used Mopar, Wix, Fleetgaurd, Napa, and Finerluber fuel filters. All have seemed pretty much the same, one thing to consider is the Mopar filter is the most expensive and the Finerluber is the cheapest.(yet they all seem to be made the same)

I have a 99 so I've got the bottom loading filter with the larger top peace on it. I change the fuel filter ever 10,000miles or every 2 oil changes. 8)

DB

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

Well I'm a believer now!!!
I got a Napa, for now, and installed it. My fuel pressure went up 9 lbs!!! With a stock fuel pump. I didn't think the filter could make that much of a difference. :-[ I was sooooooo wrong. :-[

With stock pump:
Before:
5-6 lbs at idle.
0 lbs at anything over 1500 RPM

Now:
14.5-15 lbs at idle.
11 at WOT.

I am sorry I did not believe the Diesel Gods. Please forgive me. :-[

Chris

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

Your punishment for not believing in the Diesel Gods is 200 miles of driving in a 6.5TD Chevy.

The Diesel Gods have spoken now on to your punishment.

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

I have already done this, and more, does that count?
1996 Chevy 3500 rollback (my Dad's tow garage) with the 6.5 TD. It was definitely faster than his other rollback (an 89 C60, with a 368 gas engine, school bus transmission, and a 2 speed rear ??? ), but I was not as impressed with the power as with the Cummins.

6.5 CTD: 2 injector pumps, fan clutch, 1 clutch, and 1 flywheel, all before the 30K warranty ran out. I think there has been another injector pump since then, out of warranty. :'(

I'm gonna go polish the Cummins to see if I can make up for what I put it through. (I do have the 1/2 inch fuel lines ordered for it ;D )

Chris

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

The Gods will forgive you this time but don't ever anger them again or you may loose your Cummins ownership rights.

All in good fun. ;D

Re:Fuel Filter Preference?

I get MOPAR fuel and auto trans filters from Genos. OEM stuff for a fraction of the price. Shipping charges are reasonable, and I usually order 2 or 3 fuel filters at a time.
Always carry a spare!

I've found that the filters get changed more often when it doesn't hurt the wallet so bad! :

I kinda like the filter kit you get from them so I've always gone for that in the past.
