Fuel filter doesn't fit?
Been trying to change my fuel filter for the last 4 days. I have been to 5 parts stores including the Dodge dealer. The filter will not fit onto the lid far enough to thread the lid back on. The filter I am taking out has a hole on the top and fits the lid perfectly, but the new ones have a tapered indention on top. Dealer says the part has been re-designed.
Anybody out there had this trouble?

Man, I've tried so many filter at this point I have no idea.
Not even the filter at the Dodge dealer will go on.
I have really put the "gorilla" on this thing and can't get it on far enough for the tabs to lock on, therefore the lid will not thread.
Prolly should 5 minutes with the Dremel and be done with it.

Be careful you don't have a couple of o-rings out of place or something. There may be one stuck in the filter housing. Look at the filter you took out to be sure. Grease / lube the new orings, and it should press on by hand. Don't use the threads to seat the filter. I cut an oil ring doing that and didn't know it until I change the filter the next time.

2000 on up filter cannister is totally different from the 98-99 and older versions.
Ours has a plastic lid that screws off and brings the filter with it, pop old filter out, new filter in, and screw the lid back on.
Only one o-ring, just above the threads on the lid.
Much easier to change than the previous versions.

My lid has a flat plastic piece with raised round "****" in the center, I guess to help align the filter. This piece is held in place by the "ears" on the lid. The "****" measures 1/8" larger than the indention in the top of the filter, so it is an impossibility that the correct filter (verified by 5 parts stores and Dodge dealer) will fit my lid.
Ok, I have decided my filter lid has at some time been replaced with something other than the factory one, although it looks factory.
The filter I removed has the number 0513 on the top, the correct replacements have a different number.
