HEHE I dont know if I should post how often i change mine!!LOL

Last one had 40 000 miles on it BUT WAIT!! I fuel at the same place all the time and dont seem to have all the problems many ppl here talk about. After I changed it out I didnt notice any difference in pressure and the filter looked good.

One thing I have noticed when I do change the filter is I end up with air in the system some where as the guage doesnt bounce around at idle like it normal does, after a few tanks of fuel all is good. The thing that scares me about this is where that air is in the system, if its in the VP44 then that is not good but I cant say for sure where it is so to be on the safe side I dont change the filter often and its not needed in my situation.


Depending on where you are and where you fuel makes a BIG DIFFERENCE as far as I am concerned.

Every other oil change for me.

Oil gets changed every 5k, so a new fuel filter goes in every 10k.

In fact, I'm due for both even as we speak,
I'll most likely get the oil done when I take it to the Dealer for the emissions and safety inspection which is due this month, but probably wait till the weather is a little better to do the fuel filter.

Once I get a fuel pressure guage, I'll most likely extend that interval depending on what I see on the guage.

Now I feel really stupid...

I've had my first Diesel (2002 / 24valve / Turbo) for a year and a half and now have 40k on it. I haven't changed my fuel filter yet. I didn't realize that it was such a good idea at very few intervals. I guess thats why I just joined (time to start learning) and I'm glad I did.

Time to give the rookie owner some pointers. Where is the fuel filter located on the 2002 / 24valve / Turbo engines. I know where the water filter is. How often do you change it?

I'll change it this weekend. This may be the cause of my check engine light coming on and off.

My change cured the pressure problem. 12-15 all the time now.

Water filter? You mean the water separator? That's the fuel filter too.
If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge on there, it is the absolute BEST money you can spend on that truck, if you plan to keep it for any length of time. The next best money is hi-flow banjos from Wildcatdiesel.com.

Last time my pressure dropped (kind of "faded" over time), I replaced the filter and got 6 psi across the board. That was with the Holley Blue pump I had on there. This time, well you can see above what the pressures did. I am running a stock lift pump, with stock banjos at this time.

I used to change mine every other oil change until I put in gauges to measure before and after filter pressures. Now I just check the pressure drop across the filter.
