Front driveshaft came out of axle yoke, lots of carnage!

First and foremost I'm replacing the yoke with a better one that has tabs to hold the u-joint caps in so this never happens again. I also have to make sure the shaft is still good. (Doubt it) It destroyed the trans pan, and the trans cooler lines. There is also a ground connection that was ripped from the frame, a trans linkage came apart, and there is a sensor that was ripped from the trans.

I'm looking for a good replacement, or DEEP PAN right away, and a place to source new trans lines. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

This is not my truck, I'm a 1st gen guy, so this thing is completely foreign to me, and I wasn't driving it when it broke so I have no idea what all went on. I'll post pics of the carnage tomorrow after I pick the truck up.

Thanks!

Oh, and the truck will not start either. I'm thinking it's because the gear selector linkage is broken and it won't go back into park. The keys came out of the ignition though. Like I said, not a 2nd gen guy, or an auto guy for that matter.

Tell me all about it

I just had the same thing happen. Ouch! Front shaft is bent. Transfer case exploded splitting case. Dinged oil pan but does not leak. 5 speed appears ok maybe. My heart is broken. I bought this truck new in 1998. New lift pump and injector pump 1000 miles ago. Moog track rod and tie rod ends 6 months ago. New ball joints 1 year ago. New load range f tires 1 year ago on factory chrome rims. Was going to do body this winter but now will part out and look for another truck. Anybody who has a reasonable priced 2500 or 3500 dually that is very reasonable please contact me. I would also take a 1998 - 2001 with no
engine.

What shape is the truck in? You can get a transfercase for $800 or so, a used driveshaft for less than $100, and a buddy to help you replace them- isn't the truck worth that much?

For what it's worth, I went through the same thing two years ago. It ruined the transfercase, but the driveshaft was fine.

There are other problems ie exhaust, steering box and body work. Maybe I should fix it. Thanks

As stated above, it wouldn't be that bad to fix that stuff, and while you're at it, put a better yoke in the truck.

lol I didn't even use look at the transfer case. It did ding the oil pan too. I wasn't able to pick up the truck today, so no pics yet. Anyone know the spline count and diameter of the yoke?

Still might be better to really price out the repairs. Fixing a truck you know well is worth a lot in this situation.

Ya gotta use locktight on them bolts , I use blue medium strength , make sure there is no oil or grease on the bolts or in the holes , use brake clean to clean them out . I even use to buy new factory straps every time I had the shaft dissconnected , as those straps strech after a while . Ive been slacking off on buying them lately , next time its off I'll replace them again.
