Front cover oil leak
Anyone ever have a front cover oil leak after a new pump installed? I recently put a new VP44 pump on for my wife's uncle and he now has an oil leak coming from the front timing cover gasket. Doesn't look real hard to change or anything, just trying to figure out WHY it showed up after the pump change. Looks like other than the crankshaft balancer puller, everything else bolts on.

Where exactly is the leak? Top, bottom, front, rear?
Was the front cover removed to swap the pump?
If you pulled the cover. The crank seal can leak if not changed. This is usually caused by the seal getting distressed under reinstallation. I used RTV Ultra Black or Permatex #2 to seal the front cover. It needs to be clean before applying any sealer.
If the cover was not removed, oil can trace out of the breather after reinstall. Usually, a simple clean up and it'll fix itself.
If you have oil on the rear of the cover, the o-ring on the pump was not seated or was damaged on installation.
These are the easy things to look for without knowing more detail.

You can see the oil com eout in a small stream right near the puke bottle fitting. I posted a question a while ago about the data plate leaking. Kinda wierd, but the oil ( after cleaning well, and looking closely!) comes out of the timing cover and runs down behind the engine data plate. The bottom rivet of the data plate makes it look like there is two streams coming from behind it, but like I said, looking closer, it's coming out of the front cover gasket above the data plate right next to the pump gear. I didn't take the front cover off, and have changed several of the vp44 pumps. Nothing out of the ordinary, just kinda wierd that the leak came shortly after. Was just curious if anyone else had a similar problem, or if this was just a fluke!
