Front Bilstein Shock Problem...need advice
After only 2 years on the truck, the rubber bushing or cone washer, whatever you call it, the rubber cone that fits on top of the shock tower has rotted away. The passenger side is completely gone, and the shock rod is clunking against the shock tower. I never expected this from Bilsteins. Talk about cheapo.... Can I get a generic replace washer or am I outta luck? This is a daily driver, so I need it ASAP. Thanx!

I noticed the older blue/yellow 5100's only have one bushing. They are poorly designed and wear quickly.
My new 5100's (for 2" frt lift) came with a top & bottom bushing that looked like a better design.
Don't know what to tell you about getting replacments. Bilstein dealers should be aware of this problem and have a solution.

I was told that they do not send out new shocks. You have to send in the failed unit and they will repair or replace. The might send a new bushing though. 1-858-386-5900 is the number directly to Bilstein, I would give them a call.

I contacted them via e-mail and they responded very promptly. The representative initially told me that they were installed incorrectly; that I had neglected to place the steel sleeve inside the bushing. I told them that the sleeve was in place as it should be , and sent them a digital picture of the remaining bushing. Silence........

Polyurethane shock bushings from Summit racing
You could buy a set of polyurethane ones. You can get them thru Summit for about $4, Summit poly shock bushings

BTW, Bilstein still has not replied regarding the photo I sent them of the remaining rotted bushing. As far as I know, I'm being sent another pair of bushings made from the same material as the old ones. We'll see how the polyurethane's work.
