Fleetguard LF16035 vs LF3894
Anyone have an official answer on what the difference is between these two filters? I want to go with the LF16035 because I have heard that it has better filtration with less restriction(synthetic media vs cellulose), but I can't figure out if there is any real difference between these two or if it is safe to use on my 01. Geno's Garage advertises the LF16035 and being for any year Cummins engine but they also sell the LF3894 as a 98.5 through 02 filter. The limited info I have found from Cummins makes it sound like the LF16035 is only for 03 and up Cummins and the LF3894 is for the 98.5-02, but I can't find a definitive answer. Has anyone else ever dealt with this or had to make the decision?

There was a thread or website link here that addressed filters and filtering efficiency....IIRC it was bobistheoilguy.com

They are essentially the same, something about the fluting on the 16035 to make it easier to remove on the 03 up trucks.
Anyway, both are Stratopore, the LF3972 is the standard cellulose unit.

I heard that from several sources...however I also heard that the LF16035 has a special venturi design inside that makes it less restrictive to the oil flow which sounds like a good thing...im just trying to be sure it's safe for a 24v truck

I was under the impression that the two were completely identical except that the LF16035 was fluted for the newer gen trucks whereas the LF3894 is not. Both have the Stratapore media and yes, you can use both on the 24 valve.
Worth pointing out though..... ALWAYS pre-fill the filter upon installing otherwise the Cummins start up oil pressure will stress the dry media.

That was my understanding as well. The filter media was the same, just the cans were different. I use the 16035's on my engine, and even with the fluted can, if my hands are oily/greasy the fluted end doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
