Fleetguard fuel filter
Does anybody out there know what the correct part # for the fleetguard fuel filter is for a 98.5 24 valve? I have received two different filters and they are both incorrect. Sorry, I don't have the those part #'s on me that were wrong but I would appreciate any feedback on this as it needs to be changed badly and I can't find the filter that fits!

Well..........I might have a problem here. I have tried a FS19579 and the listed for my application FS19598 and they are both incorrect. The 19598 is clearly quite different than the existing filter. It does more closely resemble a 19579 but the 19579 doesn't have a bore that goes through both ends of the element. On Geno's site they list a FS19519 Primeloc for a 24 valve but no application. What is a primeloc filter? Is it possible I could have that? I am getting frustrated - the filter really needs to be changed and I can't figure out what filter should be in there.

Does your fuel filter housing have a metal lid or a plastic lid?
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the later 24V (00-02) all had the plastic lid and would use the FS19579 and the older have the metal lid and use the FS19598.
Is it a Fleetguard filter in there now? Maybe you are trying to match up to an off brand filter that wasn't correct the last time it was changed.

It is not a fleetguard in there right now. It is a 98.5 with a metal lid. The 19598 is clearly quite different than the existing filter and does not fit properly into the lid of the housing but does fit properly into the canister.
Any idea on the 19519?

CTD,
2 things maybe.
1. Previous owner replaced filter canister.
2. Old filter not right either.
Just trying to think outside the box.
What do you mean by not fitting into the lid properly?? The old o-ring is out right??

Thanks for the feedback, Tazman. It appears to be the original canister complete with the oem element part # sticker on it which crosses to the FS19598. The filter that is in it doesn't even have an outer flange where an o-ring could go and seal to the canister but the 19598 fits in the canister fine. The problem is that the ID of the 19598 is not deep enough to allow the element to slide into the lid far enough to start the nut to hold the assembly together. There is some type of plastic part in the lid which will not accept it.
All that said, it was getting late last night and I didn't have the best light to inspect the problem more closely so I simply assumed I had the wrong filter because it didn't look like the existing one and didn't fit properly either. Like I said before, it does resemble a 19579 but has the centre bore passing all the way through it where the 19579 is closed on one end. This mystery filter appears to fit and seal perfectly.

Hmmmm....the 19598 does have a full bore (if memory serves me correct) and I know it has a full diameter top for the big o-ring. Sounds like existing was wrong???
The o-ring I originally refed to was on the "stem" of the housing. It's about 1/8" thick and 3/4" in dia. Ya have to change it......
I dunno after that. Send you a pic if you want later.

Thanks, I have a 19598 right now and I am familiar with the o-ring you are talking about. I'm going to give it one more shot and and pull the filter head off the motor if I have to so I can see what is going on tonight. Thanks again for the info. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

Well..........everyone I talked to, including Cummins, says the only filter that fits my truck is a 19598. I have verified that it certainly does NOT fit up into my filter head but does fit into the canister. The existing element fits perfectly but has no markings for identification. I'm lost. The only thing I can think to do is replace the whole assembly. I would go for a FASS but the cost is too prohibitive at the moment. The last thing I'm going to do before I go in a corner and sulk is to drive over to the Fleetguard dealer, pull the element out and try and match it up with something. Any thoughts?
