First Generation 24 Valve 98 CTD
I am looking at the first generation 24 valve to replace my last generation 12 valve. A 98 Club Cab XLT Laramie, auto, which has done a bit of 5th wheel towing.
Around 270000 kms so I figure auto tranny might need some TLC. From what I have learned the 24 valve CTD is still an awesome engine. The electronic fuel pump is another thing. Hopefully it has already been changed will see.
If it is a ``53`` block, is it still a big deal after the service life of the truck. I kinda of figure that if there was casting issue it would have surfaced by now.
My 2nd choice at the moment is a Ford, necessity sure is the root of all evil.
Thanks
Serge

mine has been good so far. i don't have the 53 block, so you may be in luck. and it has done a lot of 5ver towing. personally, i believe that any ride can be reasonably reliable with good ol' fashioned maint AND preventive maint.

I've got a 53 block and I've hammered my engine for the last 40,000kms with my current fueling level and have been into the 50psi range for a while........ no sign of a problem. Theres 185,000kms on my ticker.
I'm not going to live my life worrying about what might happen to the coolant jacket............... I might throw a rod out the side too..........
